| Organizational Comments: Wings Goaltending Coach Jim Bedard The fact that he could skate as well as he did - I thought it would be doing very light skating things, Man, he attacked it. He attacked the skating part. He's got something you can't teach and that's size. He's all about that, being 6-foot-5. Really impressed with his foot speed for his size. Usually a lot bigger guys, they might take a longer to get up to speed with their skating. This is very exciting for September that his shoulder is going to be healed. |
What GRC says: 2015-16 Coreau racked up 11 more wins in the second half before hitting the wall and losing his last five starts and the starters job heading into the postseason. Part of the problem was the team's streaky nature, while another part was probably fatigue as the super-sized netminder played more games than he ever had before. He finished the season with 29 wins, good enough for 4th, 3rd in shutouts with 6 and 4th in save percentage at .922. He stepped into the breach with team on the ropes in the postseason and backstopped a historic come from behind win and then extended the series another two games before falling game 6. An unrestricted free agent, Coreau should probably be back for another season, but is knocking at the door to the NHL.
2014-15 After a one win season he turned a lot of heads with his stellar play in relief during the season. He was the organizations fifth string netminder and turned in a noteworthy turn as the Griffins starter, winning his first six start of the season. He earned an AHL player of the week nod with a seven game winning stretch later in the season, before yielding the starters job with McCollum's return from Detroit. If he can pick up where he left off last season, he should be able to push for the starters job and establish himself as the number three netminder in the organization.
2013-14 Coreau has had a rocky start to his pro career, getting lit up for a bad team in the ECHL and then essentially becoming a practice only player with the Griffins. The lanky netminder is in a catch 22 situation as he needs playing time to get better, but hasn't played well enough for the team to play him. A return by Mrazek or the addition of another AHL depth netminder would do wonders for Coreau by allowing him to return to the ECHL and see a lot of playing time.
Fall 2013 Sought after by several NHL teams, Coreau left college early to turn pro in the Wings system. He will battle Thomas McCollum for the backup role in Grand Rapids, but will likely see most of his playing time in Toledo where he can play regularly.
