Organizational Comments: "There are other skilled 5-11 guys, but he's more intense, Works harder, chases the puck, backchecks very good. Not very physical, but skates and works and wants the puck back all the time." Hakan Andersson, Wings director of European scouting
What GRC says: 2012-13: Nyquist kept up his hot hand and finally was recalled to Detroit where he earned a spot in the lineup for the rest of the season. When they were eliminated, he was assigned to Grand Rapids and put on some dazzling displays of puck wizardry. His numbers didn't reflect his dominance with the puck (10 2-5-7 -4) but at times it seemed as if he had possession for the entire shift. He leaves for the NHL on a high note and should be a regular in Detroit next season.
2011-12: Nyquist just got better as the season went on, scoring over a point per game in the second half. He played well enough to get a couple of looks in Detroit before being recalled for good after breaking the franchise rookie scoring record. With 12 goals over his last 22 games and a share of the team points lead (58), Nyquist has proven what he needed to in the AHL and is expected to make a strong showing for a job with the Wings next season out of camp. 2010-11: Nyquist looked like he belonged in late season action after ending his collegiate career. He was creative offensively with a lot of flair, but his defensive game could use some work. He should be able to find work on a scoring line in the AHL next season.
Spring 2011: The wings have waited patiently for Nyquist to develop in college but were chomping at the bit to sign the two-time Hobey Baker Finalist following his junior year. He is a heady offensive player who is always on the puck and is capable of creating offense with his playmaking skill. He comes to the Griffins at just the right time as they are down a couple of players due to injury and he might have an opportunity to get his feet wet at the AHL level.
Role: Two way Forward
Projection: NHL 2nd liner.
