| 2016 Training Camp Notes |

| Detroit kicked off it's 2016 training camp missing most of the team's top players. Tomas Tatar, Justin Abdelkader, Petr Mrazek, Dylan Larkin, Alexey Marchenko, Frans Nielsen and Thomas Vanek all participated in the World Cup of Hockey tournament and missed most of training camp and the preseason. Henrik Zetterberg, Niklas Kronwall, Tomas Jurco, Teemu Pulkkinen and Vili Saarijarvi were all recovering from offseason injuries. This left an opportunity for the next wave of players to show their stuff and several rose to the occasion. Anthony Mantha and Andreas Athanasiou, two forwards making a push for an NHL looked strong in the early going, while Mitch Callahan and Eric Tangradi made cases for the call-up pecking order. On the blueline Xavier Ouellet, Ryan Sproul and Nick Jensen fought a battle for the last spot on the Wings' blueline with a push from freshman Joe Hicketts and steady vet Bryan Lashoff. Jared Coreau looked sharp in camp and the preseason, serving notice he is close to an NHL push.
