| 2015 Training Camp Notes |

The Detroit Red Wings invited 72 players to training camp, but several injured players were not able to attend, most notably Pavel Datsyuk, nursing his surgically repaired ankle. Two more players barely lasted the first practice session as free agent tryout Jerome Verrier (broken leg) collided with veteran Darren Helm (concussion), putting them both out for the start of the season.
This year also marked the beginning of the Jeff Blashill era with the team as the new bench boss looked to make his mark on the team. Two of the notable storylines were the emergence of rookie phenom Dylan Larkin who leapfrogged Anthony Mantha and took a job with the Wings to start the season. Larkin was the teams best player in the preseason and never looked back to become the first teenager to make the wings since Mike Sillinger. One of the other subplots was a bit more low key as Alexey Marchenko quietly took Xavier Ouellet's job as the 7th defenseman and climbed from there. Veteran Dan Cleary was one of the last cuts and contemplated retirement before joining the Griffins for an injury plagued season.
