Day two of practice in GR saw a few more players on the ice as Ryan Oulahen and Helm were sent down by the parent Wings. As you would expect from a club coached by two former NHL defensemen, most of the early part of practice focused on the defensive end of the game. Coach Stothers focused a lot on positioning during the drills, which focused on breaking out of the zone, and then moved to two-on-ones.

Red Line
#34 Clark - #14 Corazzini - #17 Cullen

White Line
#10 Walsh - #25 Tardif - #21 Engelhardt

Green Line
#11 Gelech - #16 Oulahen - #27 Keefe

Yellow Line
#15 Helm - #9 McGrath

Pairings:
#2 Ference - #8 Kinley

#7 Stafford - #12 Galvin

#5 Kindl

Goaltenders:
#31 Berkhoel
# Mens League Goaltender

Observations:

It appears there is still some sorting out of player's numbers going on as Carl Corazzini was wearing #14 today and Jamie Tardif has switched from his familiar #20 to #25. It is not hard to imagine that Corazzini surrendered #6 back to the recently assigned Jonathan Ericsson. When Carl switched to #14 that bumped Johan Ryno who conceivably moved to #20, which bumped Tardif to #25. It is always so funny to see the dance at the beginning of the season in which the new players jockey for their favorite numbers.

After a couple of days of watching coach Stothers I am beginning to see the differences between he and his predecessor coach Ireland. GI liked the Edmonton Oilers system of always being in motion and a hard forecheck. Stothers seems to concentrate more on the defense starting the offense, and is a stickler on positioning and moving the puck out of the zone.
