Tangradi Terrorizes Moose in 5-1 Stomp
Thomas McCollum stops 32 shots for 10th win...

Eric Tangradi continued to terrorize the Moose, putting up a goal and assist to give him seven points in two games against them this weekend. He wasn't alone as Anthony Mantha scored his second goal and 4th point of the weekend to become the Griffins third 20 goal scorer this season. Martin Frk added his team leading 23rd goal on the powerplay, and GR also got goals from Tyler Bertuzzi (11) and Tomas Nosek (12) in the win. First star Thomas McCollum stopped 32 of 33 shots in an impressive win. The win was the Griffins 10th consecutive victory, their second double digit winning streak of the season.
Rechlicz, on his first shift of the game, attacked Blomqvist and ended up in the box by himself for 4 minutes. The Griffins penalty killers were up to the task and kept it scoreless. Jensen fired a long blast from the point that hit the post and stayed out. Blomqvist flicked a shot from the circle past a screened McCollum, low stick side, to open the scoring. Miele tried to tie it up with a great chance from the top of the circle. Griffins on the power play, Frk crept in for the back door pass, and Comrie made a super save to keep the puck out. The Moose took another penalty, setting up a short 5-on-3. Bertuzzi at the side of the net picked up a rebound and slid it through Comrie for a powerplay goal. Give and go with Anthony Mantha and Eric Tangradi, Tangradi got the puck back right in front and just fired it wide. Shots on goal: GR 10 - Man 9.
Mantha sprung on a breakaway, great second and third effort to drag his own rebound around Comrie's pad and into the net for a 2-1 lead. Kramer bumped Renouf after the whistle and the two engaged in a staredown with the linesman in the middle. The 4th line doing a great job, cycling the puck deep for long periods of time. Frk made it 3-0 when he wristed a shot past Comrie from between the circles for another powerplay goal. Then tempers flared and a scrum broke out just in front of the paint. McCollum with the stop and Manitoba jamming away at it, but he held on. Cleary got sprung for a break er... lurchaway but looked like he was skating in quicksand and was quickly overtaken and lost the puck. Kramer and Kichton trying to get at Frk after the whistle. Shots on goal: GR 13 - Man 10.
Tangradi in front pulled a rebound out off Comrie and tucked it around his pads for a 4-1 lead. Great save by McCollum in a crowd of players. Brutal non-call on Tangradi getting pulled down with the puck, and then Frk gets whistled for a weak penalty. Comrie to the bench for an extra skater to make it a 6-on-4 powerplay. Nosek shot the puck the length of the ice into the empty net for a shorthanded goal and cap a 5-1 win. Shots on goal: GR 8 - Man 8. For the game: GR 35 - Man 22.

Observations:
Grand Rapids handed the last place Moose their 5th straight loss leaving them at the bottom of the AHL. Manitoba did not roll over and die, though, taking the lead early. They brought a lot more urgency and energy tonight than they had yesterday.
Dan Renouf had a rocky welcome to the pro game. While he didn't make any mistakes that directly led to a goal, he showed he needs to work on some things before being ready to take a regular shift on this blueline. Several times the puck was played around the boards on his side of the ice for him to clear. He waived his stick at the puck, watched it roll by and then end up on the stick of a moose player for a chance. He will have to learn to bear down a bit more and make sure he is making a good first pass to get the puck out and up ice.
The first line picked a good time to get hot pouring in 6 goals and 11 assists in two games this weekend. Mantha has taken another step in his development, battling hard for scoring chances and using his size and speed to gain position.
