Tootoo's Two Goals Too Much For Wolves
Griffins third line keys 3-1 win...
By Jason Kasiorek
January 15th, 2014

Jordan Tootoo had his multi-point game as a Griffin scoring a pair of goals to lead the way over the visiting Chicago Wolves. The Griffins scored three straight goals to take control of the contest, holding the potent Wolves offense scoreless until giving up a late goal with 35 seconds remaining. Thomas McCollum turning in his second straight stirling effort making 33 saves to pick up his 16th win of the season. Blueliner Xavier Ouellet snared his 3rd of the season for the Griffins third goal.

Jarnkrok taken down setting up an early griffins powerplay until Tootoo took a dumb penalty to negate it. Physical period with lots of hitting by both sides, Parkes and grant on the 4th line very noticeable in this regard. Neither side really had much of an advantage as it seemed they were feeling each other out. Shots on Goal: GR 9 - Chi 10.

Great chance by McIntyre on a partial break and then Frk following up had a nice rip. Ferraro had a couple of quick pops at the loose puck in front of Allen before it was covered. McIntyre fired a big shot form the the line that Callahan got a stick on in the circle to redirect it past Allen with Tootoo screening in front. The goal was credited to Tootoo who it hit on the way through. Great shorthanded chance by Ferraro sent in alone by Emmerton , but he fired it into Allen's glove. Shots on Goal: GR 11 - Chi 11.

McCollum came up huge, stopping a great chance 5-on-3. Emmerton cleared the zone and had a nice shorthanded rush. The Griffins' penalty killers were at the top of their game, killing off the two man advantage and hardly allowing any scoring chances to the wolves. Tootoo made it 2-0 when he ran up the middle with speed, took a feed from Ferraro and wristed a shot past Allen, low stick-side. Another undisciplined penalty by Tootoo cross-checking Longpre along the boards. He redeemed himself again, coming out of the box and drawing a penalty to set up a griffins powerplay. Late in the period Ouellet fired a shot from the point that pinballed in past Allen glove side. mcCollum lost his shutout bid with 35 seconds left when Hanson centered the puck with a behind the back pass to Davies on the doorstep for a goal. Allen to the bench late but it didn't help as the Griffins won 3-1. Shots on Goal: GR 13 - Chi 13. For the Game: GR 33 - Chi 34.
