The Griffins dominated the last place Peoria Rivermen for most of the game, but still came out on the wrong side of a 3-2 game. Peoria's Jake Allen proved to be the difference, stopping 31 shots, while his counterpart Thomas McCollum gave up 2 on 8 shots in the second before yielding the game winner in overtime. The Griffins had 8 powerplay chances and outshot the opposition 26-13 through the first two periods. Mitch Callahan scored his second of the season, and Landon Ferraro notched his 14th, on the powerplay.

Big hit behind the net and Ponich and Grant dropped the gloves. The Griffins heavyweight threw Ponich to the ice and pummeled him. Grand Rapids ended up with a powerplay that quickly became a 5-on-3. The Griffins were unable to convert. Great work between Callahan and Nestrasil to keep possession of the puck in deep, ending with Callahan batting the puck behind Allen. Hoggan had a chance to extend the lead late on a breakaway but couldn't get it over Allen. Shots on Goal: GR 12 - Peo 5.

Ferraro poked the puck home in a goalmouth pileup, but the official ruled no goal. The play was reviewed and it was ruled a goal, a powerplay marker for Ferraro, his 14th of the season. On the next play, Cracknell snapped a shot past a snoozing McCollum, a goal the keeper would like back. Hoggan blocked a shot and went down in a heap. He had a hard time limping back to the bench to get off the ice. Midway through the second Peoria tied the game on a goal by Sonne. Grand Rapids dominated the period in terms of puck possession, even the 4th line is carrying the puck in and making plays. Sheahan stole the puck in the Peoria zone, showed great patience to suck out Allen and try to sneak a shot five-hole. Shots on Goal: GR 14 - Peo 8.

Aubry gave Bruton a shove from behind into the boards and was attacked by Shattock who knocked him to the ice. Grand Rapids looks to be doing its best to give this game away. Nice chance in the dying second for Tatar on the rush. The puck just rolled off Allen's glove and went wide. Shots on Goal: GR 6 - Peo 11.

Paetsch fired a big point shot that went just wide. Tatar stole the puck in front but went down trying to cut through the slot. Sheahan in traffic, kicked the puck from skate to stick and fed Almquist for a dangerous shot. A bad bounce in front was chipped in past McCollum to end the game a 3-2 Peoria victory. Shots on Goal: GR 1 - Peo 2. For the Game: GR 33 - Peo 26.

Observations:

Brutal ending to a game that started out with so much promise. You could see the team sag after the 2nd goal McCollum gave up, and Peoria took advantage in third, bringing more energy. You could tell this game would not end well.

Another great game by Sheahan. He set up Tatar numerous times and used his speed well to get the puck deep and then dish to the trailer. he also did some solid work along the boards.

Raedeke didn't play a lot, but was tough to play against on the PK while filling in for Aubry.

Aubry stood out and even got some powerplay time, putting his big body in front of the net. He used his size well, winning board battles all night.

Tatar was snakebit tonight. He had some great chances, but could not put the puck behind Allen.Ferraro seemed to be out every other shift at times and was always dangerous. It is funny how he can make something of nothing while killing a penalty and get a quality scoring chance.

Lashoff also deserves a mention for his shot blocking in front of McCollum. He sacrificed the body several times to keep the puck from getting to the net.
